The latest battleground in the clash of civilizations is on the flat lands of Mongolia. In the vast emptiness a foreign army of spiritual benefactors has been established. They fight for the attention and souls of three million Mongolians. The Last Frontier is about the missionaries and their best intentions in the 21st century. How spiritual and cultural identity falls under the control of the neo-imperialist reflexes of the (Christian) assistance. The film tells the tale of the Congolese pastor Gaby Bamana and shows his mental journey. He changed from someone who spread God’s word and provided assistance in Mongolia, to a man that experiences a change of belief and stands on the verge to leave his Catholic background. After fifteen years of work with the Mongolian orphans and fight against poverty, Bamana has reached that point in his life where his faith in the mission leaves him.

In a world where integration and acceptance are of growing importance, Mongolia is a playground that functions as a mirror for our own consciousness and responsibility.
